Plastics are hard, lightweight, and highly processable, making them suitable for various industries However, they inherently have the disadvantage of being flammable. Therefore, in industries where heat generation or sensitivity to fire is a concern, such as electronics and automotive, flame-retardant properties are required. ‘Flame-retardant' refers to the property of not easily catching fire. In the past, flame retardants containing bromine (Br) and other halogens were commonly used, but they were known to generate toxic gases during combustion. Therefore, the development of non-halogen flame retardants has been ongoing.
